Artist: State Champs Release Date: May 13th Title: Kings of the New Age Score: 8/10 *Note: this is a personal review and is in no way bashing this band or anyone involved* First Impressions: This album reminds of simpler times; when everything wasn't so serious and music could be a little more fun. It brings me back to my 'The Story So Far' obsessed, bright shirts and flannel kind of style. The album is poppy, has great riffs, and plenty of radio friendly bangers with adjoining music videos to draw teens and older emo kids in. The production is well done, and the album art, though a bit loud, is cohesive with the band's message. Vocals are good, lyrics are decent, and the album ties together well. Likes and Dislikes: I love the *pop* of the drums on many of the tracks, it's a burst of sound that very tight and pleasing to the ear. A few of the tracks are extremely repetitive, making it impossible to get out to get out of your head once they're in there. Favorite Tracks: Everybody But You, Half Empty, Some Minds Don't Change Wrap-up:This is a nice little pop punk ditty that is perfect for a car ride, the soundtrack to an amusement park for emo kids, or the introduction of an entire genre to a new generation of fans. The songs are well written, respectively, and made me smile. The nostalgia was definitely real on this one. Well done boys.
