First Impressions: Spiritbox has shaken loose any inhibitions and lit a fire under the seat of naysayers and haters. The new direction of Rotoscope caught me off guard at first, but the closer I listened, the more these songs started to feel like the Spiritbox from Eternal Blue. Earlier this year in an, lead vocalist Courtney mentioned that their new projects would probably piss people off; I believe they have done that, but in a very special way. They've managed to create something that is lasting and can be appreciated by multi-genre fans. There are definitely some whimsically constructed riffs and vocals that ring true to the title of each song. And the screams on 'Hysteria' are absolutely top teir. Likes and Dislikes: Initially, I wasn't a fan that the EP only had 3 songs, but of course we have to take people's art for what it is. I like each track equally, however, 'Sew Me Up' really hit home. The first song, 'Rotoscope', wasn't for me at first, there was just an off feeling about it. I wouldn't mind hearing it in the car though. Wrap-up: This band has had an uphill battle with the rock world from day one. I believe that battle has not quite been won, but a massive blow has been made to haters. These songs, in some ways, are of an even higher quality that most of Eternal Blue; they leave you wanting more in a way that can only be magic.
