The scene can't function without people putting shows together. Folks like Caleb Good, one of the masterminds behind Lost Life Booking, are the bones of our community.
I sat down with Caleb to ask a few questions about the business, and what it means to him.
Tell us a little about Lost Life Booking and the work you do with that? And just to clarify, are you based out of Virginia; where are you from originally? Lost Life Booking is a diy booking collective made up of myself, my wife Haley, Matt Reitz & Kody Watson based out of Virginia. I saw a need for shows in the 757 and hopped right in with the help and guidance of Matt (formerly of Dead End Booking) and slowly have branched out to hosting shows in Richmond and Charlottesville also. I was born in Charlottesville and lived in Virginia until I was 9 when I moved to Louisville, Ky. What got you into the promotion world? Did it stem from working directly with a certain band or did you always want to do something similar to this? It’s always something I’ve had a hand in helping through the years but when I moved back to Virginia in 2019 and started coming to shows, I noticed a need for more quality shows in the 757. Richmond was getting everything. They still get the bulk of offers but we’re getting there. It’s like a family down there. What's the hardest thing about about balancing booking/promotion and photography? I would the say the hardest part is trying to separate myself as the promoter and myself as a photographer when approaching a band about potentially shooting for them. So often I want to just shoot everything for free but at the end of the day my photography is also a business and one that makes a bulk of my income. Your photos are outstanding. What is your mindset when you go into a gig and are photographing multiple bands at a time? My goal is to capture every unique moment for every band I work with. So the scene right now: there's been alot of advancement and growth. What have been some highlights from your point of view? My highlight honestly hasn’t happened yet. Despite having some amazing shows through the years, I absolutely cannot wait for Mosh For Life this upcoming August. It’s a two day suicide prevention benefit and something very dear to me.
What's been your favorite venue to work thus far and why? I’ve worked with some great venues but Daniel and Scandals go above and beyond to make sure every show goes off as a success. Can’t thank him enough for everything he does.
*Scandals is located in VA Beach, VA.
