Artist: Kingz and Thievez
Album Title: L'appel du Vide
Release Date: August 6th, 2022
Score: 9.2/10
First Impressions: This was a down home, old-fashioned beat down kind of EP. There's alot of alternating between higher and lower keyed vocals which I appreciated very much. The abrupt, 'wake the hell up' feel of the opening track "The Black Labyrinth" delivered on a silver platter. Even in the midst of all the heavy, crashing drums and guitar riffs, the band manages to fit in some dynamic changes in speed and key that add a little spice to the mix. The album art was neat; it reminded me of swarm, coming to leave destruction in its wake. Interesting concept.
Likes and Dislikes: The heaviness left me breathless and moshing around my kitchen. I wished for a few more dramatic pauses to get the adrenaline pumping but I can deal without. There were a couple instances where the cymbals were a bit much, almost being a little on the side of busy.
Favorite Tracks: Smile on the Sinner, Same Torture/ New Pain (this song deserves a damn Grammy)
Wrap-up: A well thought out release on its way to being well loved. Kingz and Thievez left it all in the open, all angry like. And we were not mad at all. Good job, boys.
