*Note: this is a personal review and is in no way bashing this band or anyone involved*
First Impressions: There are a lot of electronic elements in the songs that initially threw me off guard. At first listen, most of the songs are not super heavy, which does not make them bad songs but lowers my inclination to reach for this album by a mile. Many of the songs sound similar; drum beats that sound alike, riffs with the same inflections. The vibe of this album strikes me as "long drive home and don't want to skip any songs". Almost 'The Neighborhood'-like in nature. The album itself is hefty at 15 songs and 53 minutes. It's as if some of these don't belong, like they are from a different stage or phase in the band's career. Not terrible, but not show-stopping either.
Likes and Dislikes: I am not a fan of how some of the songs are structured. It feels like there's no clear message or direction. There are a few heavier tracks that do carry the album and are enjoyable.
Favorite Tracks: Just Pretend, The Grey, Artificial Suicide
Wrap-up: The album has a few gems but overall could have been better. Some of the songs don't seem to fit with the overall esthetic. Which which is really unclear to be honest. Experimentation is fine and this isn't a bad album at all, just not my favorite.
